A study of the nature and principles of the gathering of evidence by the court in both civil and criminal cases; rules of admission and exclusion; rules on hearsay and opinion evidence; judicial notice; and presumption and burden of proof, as provided in the Civil Procedure Code, Division 1, Title 5, and the Criminal Procedure Code, Division 5.
